Boulder County Jail Roster Overview

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office runs the jail and publishes the public inmate listing. The roster sits inside a Power BI report linked from the official Daily Booking and Listing Reports page. The Sheriff updates the report from live jail data, so the count and the names shift through the day. The official entry page warns that the report is for general information only and does not replace official Sheriff's records.

The roster covers people held at the Boulder County Jail. It does not list state prison inmates held by the Colorado Department of Corrections, federal inmates in Bureau of Prisons custody, or people held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It also does not show older bookings. For old jail records, mugshots, or body-worn camera files, the Sheriff's Records Section at 303-441-3600 handles records requests under the Colorado Open Records Act and the Criminal Justice Records Act.

The enhanced page launched October 30, 2024. The Sheriff added name search, a same-day release report, next-24-hour release data, and live jail population metrics. Population fields now show arresting agency, gender, sentencing status, ethnicity, race, and length of stay. Historical jail statistics are being added over time.

An overview of the jail home page can be seen at the Boulder County Jail overview page.

How to Use the Boulder County Inmate Roster

The Power BI report is open to the public, free, and does not need an account. Use the same tool for a current Boulder County inmate search, a same-day release check, or a live population snapshot. Open the report from the official entry page so the disclaimer loads first.

  1. Open the official Daily Booking and Listing Reports entry page and read the disclaimer.
  2. Click the Continue link to load the Power BI jail report.
  3. Use the tab bar at the top to choose Listing Report, Bookings, Releases, or Population data.
  4. Type a last name in the search box. A first name can narrow the result list.
  5. Scan the table for the person and check the booking date and status column.
  6. Click the row or a record link to view charges, bond, and other public fields.
  7. For older or missing records, call the Sheriff's Records Section at 303-441-3600.

If the name does not show, the person may have been released, moved to a state or federal facility, or held under a sealed case. Names with common spellings can also need a second pass. Try a partial last name first.

Roster Search Fields

The Power BI report exposes a small set of search controls. The exact minimum character count is not published, but a last name almost always works. The table below lists the public fields and tabs found on the live report.

The Power BI tool does not have a true case number field. Booking IDs may show inside the result table, but they are not a search input on the public view. Searches by booking number are handled by the Sheriff's Records Section.

Booking Process in Boulder County

People are brought to the Boulder County Jail after an arrest by a city police force, the Sheriff's Office, the Colorado State Patrol, or a federal agency under a local hold. Intake takes place in the booking area, where deputies check identity, run warrant checks, and log property. Nurses and EMTs complete a health screen on every person booked to confirm safe housing. Classification staff then assign a security level and a housing unit.

Bonding is open 24 hours a day in the jail lobby. A person may post the full bond in person, or a licensed bonding agent can post a surety bond for a non-refundable fee. Jail staff do not recommend a bonding agent. The FAQ says routine processing or release runs about 4 to 6 hours, but evenings, weekends, and holidays push the times up. For booking and bond questions, call 303-441-4650.

First appearance in district or county court usually happens within 48 hours after a warrantless arrest, not counting weekends or court holidays. The judge sets or reviews bond, may appoint a public defender, and reads the charges. People released before first appearance still must show up for that date.

Health, mental health, dental, and MAT services are staffed in the jail. Nurses are on site 24/7, and doctor rounds run twice a week. Mental health clinicians work seven days a week. The MAT program offers medication, therapy, and reentry support for moderate to severe opioid addiction; naloxone is handed out at release. See the jail health services page for more detail.

The Sheriff's jail FAQ covers most booking questions, from finding an inmate to phone setup. View it at the Boulder County jail FAQ.

How to Contact a Boulder County Inmate

Mail goes to the jail at the inmate's name plus the jail address. The FAQ states that letters must show only name and address; no other markings are accepted. Photos can be sent, but nude or explicit photos are blocked. Contraband is held in the inmate's property. Items other than letters are returned to sender. Inmates cannot get bibles or religious medallions through the mail; they can ask the chaplain for religious items. The chaplain line is 303-441-4667.

Mail address:

Boulder County Jail
Inmate's Name (First, MI, Last)
3200 Airport Road
Boulder, CO 80301

Phone calls are outbound only. Inmates may not get incoming calls. Combined Public Communications runs the phone service. The vendor gives one free one-minute call to a new number, then asks the recipient to set up a prepaid account. The prepaid account works for one phone number. Three-way and forwarded calls are blocked. To block unwanted inmate calls, call 303-441-4601.

For booking and bond questions, the direct line is 303-441-4650. For medical or program calls, use the jail switchboard at 303-441-4600. For warrant questions, the public must call the courts or visit a police department or the Sheriff's Office with a photo ID; the Sheriff's warrants line is 303-441-3750. People checking for a Boulder County warrant record can use that line.

Commissary and Inmate Funds

The Boulder County Jail uses TouchPay/GTL Financial Services for deposits. Money can be added by toll-free phone at 1-866-232-1899, by online deposit, or at the TouchPay kiosk in the jail lobby. Phone and online deposits accept MasterCard and Visa debit and credit cards. The kiosk accepts cash plus the same cards. Funds are normally available within an hour through these three methods. Mail deposits are also accepted, but only money orders, government checks, and certified checks. Personal checks are returned or placed in inmate property. Mail deposits take up to seven days.

Inmate account money pays for commissary, booking and bonding fees, and certain medical services. At release, the remaining balance is sent back as a check. The jail does not publish detailed clothing, medication, or ID return rules, so people picking up a released family member should call ahead to confirm what to bring.

Programs that touch the inmate account include the inmate worker program, community worker assignments, and reentry housing. Eligible sentenced inmates can earn good time of up to 10 days per month. Community worker placement needs sentenced status, less than 270 days left, and no holds or pending charges. See the jail programs page for the full program list.

The programs page also lists GED testing, the jail library, the law library, and the Transitional Housing Program for eligible inmates leaving the facility.

Sex Offender Registry and Older Records

For people required to register, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation runs the public sex offender search at the state level. The site lists adult felony registrants by first name, last name, city, county, or ZIP. Pick Boulder for a county-specific search. The public site does not list misdemeanor registrants or juvenile adjudication registrants in the same way. CBI also warns that not every Colorado registrant is on the public site.

Older Boulder County jail bookings are not in the Power BI report. They sit in the Sheriff's Records Section files. Call 303-441-3600 to ask about older booking dates, mugshots, dispatch recordings, or fingerprinting records. The Records Section charges a $5 search fee per searched report, which covers up to 10 pages; pages past 10 cost $0.25 each. The fee is waived for any person indexed as a victim. Juvenile arrest photos are not released unless the juvenile is charged as an adult.

State prison cases sit with the Colorado Department of Corrections. The DOC inmate locator covers people sentenced to state custody. Federal inmates are in the Bureau of Prisons locator. Both tools are separate from the Boulder County jail roster. For custody-status notifications, VINELink lets the public sign up for alerts where Colorado agencies provide data.
